National Day on Writing

Hello all,

The National Day on Writing is an initiative started by the National Council of Teachers of English to celebrate writing — in all its glorious forms. For this year’s celebration on Tuesday, October 20, we’re asking: “How does writing keep you connected?” Please visit our site to answer this question via GoogleForm by Saturday, October 17, and share with students and colleagues at LaGuardia: https://dayonwriting.commons.gc.cuny.edu/collaborative-poem/

We’ll be shaping these responses into a collaborative poem, which we’ll read via Zoom on October 20th at 2pm. Please join us for the reading of the collaborative poem, and faculty should feel free to invite their classes! You can register here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUkcO-oqDMoHN0UEeo7dt72utzmSQCinjep

Throughout the day on October 20th, we’ll also be sharing videos of LaGuardia writers (faculty, staff, students & alum) reading and talking about their work, along with pre-recorded panels/workshops and activities/prompts to get writers started. All of these videos will be housed on our site as well, for folks to visit at any time beyond the National Day on Writing: https://dayonwriting.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

Let me know if you have any questions, and I hope you can participate in some way in our Day on Writing celebrations at LaGuardia! Social media participation is also encouraged (hashtags and accounts to tag are listed in the flyer designed by Dr. Sonia Alejandra Rodriguez below).

Thanks,

Bethany Holmstrom
